kids eye test checking childrens vision

kids eye examinations

At Stephens & Drew Opticians we believe it is never too early for eyecare.

Children do not have to know their letters to have an eye examination.

We aim to make the experience easy and fun!

As a parent you will receive all the advice you need regarding your child’s eyecare. And remember that all children's eye tests are paid for by the NHS.

your child's first eye test

It is recommended that children have a sight test by the age of three, or earlier if you think there may be a problem. Typically young children do not complain if they can’t see, particularly if only one eye is affected.

Whilst vision screening checks are often carried out by doctors or health visitors in your child’s early years these are not as comprehensive as a full eye examination by a qualified optometrist; and given that a child’s vision is fully developed by the age of seven, these early years are a very important time.

Free NHS sight tests are available at opticians for children under 16 and for young people under 19 in full-time education.
